Cosmetology License Requirements in Kentucky

Kentucky cosmetology schools and beauty schools can prepare you for a career in a diverse personal care industry. Occupations include cosmetologist, manicurist/nail technician, or esthetician. Kentucky, like all other states, requires cosmetologists, nail technicians, and estheticians to hold a license. Licensure requirements in Kentucky include:

  • Apprentice Cosmetologist/Cosmetologist: 1,800 classroom hours plus at least a 10th grade education.
  • Nail Technician: 600 classroom hours plus at least a10th grade education.
  • Esthetician: 1,000 classroom hours plus at least a 12th grade education.
  • Apprentice Instructor/Instructor: 1,000 classroom hours plus at least a 12th grade education

Applicants must pass a written examination.
