Cosmetology License Requirements in Minnesota

Minnesota offers three licenses for those who want to work in the personal appearance industry: cosmetologist, esthetician, and manicurist. If you've ever wanted to work as a hairstylist, makeup artist, skin-care specialist, or nail technician, consider attending one of the state's excellent cosmetology schools.

Each license requires a specific and detailed body of knowledge. Beauty school students in Minnesota take courses in safety and sanitation, trichology (the study of hair and the scalp), chemical waving and straightening, hair color, nail and skin conditions, and proper tool usage. The number of mandatory classroom hours varies for each license:

  • Cosmetologist: 1550 hours of class
  • Esthetician: 600 hours of class
  • Manicurist: 350 hours of class

Why Research Minnesota Beauty Schools?

Minnesota beauty schools have the distinct advantage of offering both theoretical knowledge and practical experience as a cosmetologist, esthetician, or manicurist. The specialized courses help you acquire the knowledge and hands-on training you need to pass the state examination and obtain your license. Working with the instructors and other students gives you the confidence to comfortably deal with and assist future clients. If helping others look and feel their best is your passion, research Minnesota's cosmetology schools and discover which program is right for you.
