Cosmetology License Requirements in Oregon

Oregon cosmetologists, manicurists, estheticians and barbers all have one thing in common. They earned a professional license through one of the state's Board-approved training programs. And if starting a new career in cosmetology is in your future, Oregon is a great place to be to prepare for whatever aesthetic discipline most interests you. For your initial license application, you must earn 150 training hours in Safety/Infection Control and 100 training hours of Career Development in addition to the following requirements.

  • Cosmetologist (Hair Design). 1,450-hour training course, pass State-approved written and practical exams
  • Manicurist (Nail Technology). 350-hour training course, pass State-approved written and practical exams
  • Esthetician. 250-hour training course, pass State-approved written and practical exams
  • Barber. 1,100-hour training course, pass State-approved written and practical exams

There are a number of Oregon beauty schools, Oregon barber schools, and Oregon skin care schools capable of placing you in one of these in-demand aesthetic careers. However, the importance of earning your license can't be overstated. Oregon's state-approved training programs base your education on the theory and practice that professional licensure demands. Not only do you sharpen your skills, but you learn the business acumen that potential employers prefer.
