If you live in Virginia and would like to become a cosmetologist, you must first pass the state examination to earn your license. Following are the classroom hours required to obtain several specific licenses:

  • Barber: 1,500 hours of class
  • Cosmetologist: 1,500 hours of class
  • Esthetician: 600 hours of class
  • Hair Braider: 170 hours of class
  • Nail Technician: 150 hours of class
  • Wax Technician: 115 hours of class
